  Our Heroes--past and present

  i really hope to get a ton of responses for this topic, so even if you're just browsing through postings and topics, please add your two cents...however brief.

  i am really curious to know who our "heroes" are, those people we admire, identify with, emulate and recieve inspiration from.

  feel free to even list former heroes and perhaps why you were taken with admiration for them at that point in your life and maybe why you don't feel that way any longer.

  In history, I am awed by the architecture of a Renaissance architect named Andrea Palladio. All of classical architecture as we know it today is based on his work ( he used Greek and Roman architecture as a base). Although examples of his work are all over Italy, the city of Vicenza up north has the best collection of his buildings. ( I am an architect, and notice these things!)

  In more recent times, a "wordly" person, a friend whose name would not mean anything on this forum; for being such a good friend and helping me to realize that "worldly" people were not what I was taught. It was a catharsis for me, a good little JW pioneer ( raised in the faith) to see that there was an entire world just waiting to be discovered.

  i make no apologies for going on about the 80's again, its just that i've been having another nostalgia music session again.....you know dig out all your favourite tracks type thing..... i nominate........ duran duran union of the snake.

  I love the 80s, came of age during that decade and alot of good things came my way.

  All the music posted above was great, and my car radio was tuned to stations that played it all....

  However, I was living in NYC in that decade and some of the hottest spots played some very different music...

  THE RAINBOW ROOM at the RCA tower---played rediscovered swing music with a 25 piece orchestra

  BEMELMANS BAR at the CARLYLE Hotel ---Bobby Short singing Cole Porter

  I guess New York was in a nostalgic mode that decade.

  hey all im new to this site its really interesting to see people working out issues, getting things off their chests, and building a community.

  im 23 and broke with the faith when i left my parents house at 17, in effect i had before that but it took a while to free my mind from the doctrine.

  i like to think all that stuff is behind me but you know, upbringing affects you a lot.

  What would Jesus teach us today?

  Have you ever seen all the Renaissance paintings of him? He looks just like Jim Morrison, or Mick Jagger....

  I can say that I have much to be greatful for in life, some of it was all an "accident of birth". However, after leaving the JWs, I can honestly say that my life is what I make of it. We all have choices....

  i always get a kick out of how the jws will reserve an entire bowling alley to keep out of the house on oct 31. are any of you going down to your local bowling alley on halloween dressed in your jw costume?

  how about if we fill a great big punch bowl up with lots of wrapped candies, put on a silly costume and actually give out the candy to little kids who come to our door, and tell them what great or scary costumes they have!

  Perhaps some JWs will take a lesson on how to put a big smile on some littles kids faces.....( will god actually strike us dead?)
